Thanksgiving week is always a busy one. Between finalizing the holiday dinner menu, buying food, and cleaning the house, I have less time to prepare for school. Good thing it’s a short school week!

Having a few Thanksgiving games ready to go is essential in making the holiday week go as smoothly as possible. My kids’ favorite game for Thanksgiving is Thanksgiving bingo. They like it for the excitement of winning and I like it because it gives us a chance to incorporate sight word practice while we play a game for Thanksgiving. Plus, the Thanksgiving bingo cards are reusable, so I only have to print them once and can put them away to use again next year – a huge time saver during the busy week.

The Thanksgiving bingo game has two printable options (color and blackline) and is easy to prepare. Simply print the Thanksgiving bingo cards and the sight word list and you’re ready to play. You can use the included turkey covers to cover the sight words or use seasonal candy, acorns, or raisins.

The Thanksgiving bingo game comes with 30 cards and the sight words are organized in alphabetical order on the first ten cards. This is great for scaffolding and for helping newer readers find the words quickly. There are five variations of the Thanksgiving bingo game and you can choose which sight words your students need to practice.

Primer

This activity doubles as a Thanksgiving game for kids and adults to play after the Thanksgiving meal. It’s easy to set up for a large group and the winner can take home pumpkin pie leftovers.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!
